Sustainable and SLOW TOURISM in the Amalfi Coast

We talk more and more often about sustainable tourism, slow tourism and undertourism. What does it mean? How to live sustainable tourism experiences a Salerno and in Amalfi Coast? I talk about it in this article!

Sustainable tourism

In another article, I have already tried to explain what it really means Sustainable tourism, in its meaning that goes beyond the green stereotype. Starting from the definition given by the World Tourism Organization, it can be said that sustainable tourism is a type of tourism that allows preservingcultural integrity, essential ecological processes, biological diversity, life systems of the area in question.” The main objective of sustainable tourism is to promote and enhance local traditions, respecting the environment and the territories, as well as the host populations.

In a nutshell, that’s what I try to do in this blog, where I tell you about the more authentic side of Salerno, of the Amalfi Coast and Cilento. I try to suggest alternative routes to avoid the crowds and to get to know the less known places of this corner of paradise, in order to make you an integral part of the local community, its traditions, and its way of life, beyond unbridled tourism.

Undertourism

The lesser-known destinations are precisely those that undertourism, another aspect of sustainable tourism, seeks to enhance. Destinations very often avoided because they are often considered uninteresting distant from the predetermined route and, therefore, always crowded. These destinations are often the ones that a local person can recommend. That’s why I’m here!

Undertourism means not following the crowd, it means abandoning the long queues to visit something you already know, abandoning stress, and saving time. All this replaced by authentic experiences, which will make you feel like locals and not guests, in order to have even more care of the territory as if it were your home.

And what is the most authentic way to live in this area of Salerno, the Amalfi Coast, and Cilento? Slowly. Forget the stress and try to live like a local. Follow the times of nature, pay attention to details, to perfumes, to flavors. Experience what is called slow tourism.

Slow tourism

As the word says, “ slow tourism “Is a new way of traveling that makes you abandon stress and it allows the tourist to “slow down” and, in this way, to notice details, to discover hidden places, learn about different cultures, and local products. All this, respecting the environment and taking advantage of the true essence of the place visited.

If you want to be a “slow” tourist you have to prefer less crowded places, less known, but perhaps for this reason, authentic, because immersed in the local culture, in which to appreciate traditions, uses and local habits. So you can take home an indelible memory as well as enrich yourself with new healthier habits.

In Salerno, on the Amalfi Coast, and in Cilento, it is very easy to experience this type of slow and sustainable tourism. Trekking, walking, cycling, are just some of the examples of activities to live an unforgettable experience.

You can start by reading my blog articles to be able to plan one smart vacation, forgetting the “hit and run” type of travel, and slowly experiencing the most authentic soul that this area can offer you. And if you need, feel free to write me and ask me for advice!
